We are excited to launch our new SEW-REDI speaker series with Micah Marie Johnson, Miami multi-hyphenate creative and executive leader of the Miami Poetry Club! Join us for an enlightening journey into the transformative power of poetry and discover how the art of crafting words can serve as a profound tool for healing, self-reflection, and empowerment. In this interactive session, we’ll delve into the intersection of poetry, determination, and self-care, exploring how poetic expression can be a catalyst for personal growth and resilience. Micah will guide participants through a hands-on poetry writing exercise, tapping into their creativity and inner strength. Eliminating Racism. Empowering Women.
About us
YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. We are one of the oldest and largest women’s organizations in the nation, serving over 2 million women, girls, and their families. YWCA has been at the forefront of the most pressing social movements for more than 160 years — from voting rights to civil rights, from affordable housing to pay equity, from violence prevention to health care reform. Today, we combine programming and advocacy in order to generate institutional change in three key areas: racial justice and civil rights, empowerment and economic advancement of women and girls, and health and safety of women and girls

We embarked on our Community Justice Challenge yesterday with an eye-opening discourse on Medical Abuse and Informed Consent. Did you know that maternal death rates are highest among Black women, and these rates have more than doubled over the last twenty years? The roots of these health disparities trace back to centuries of racism and still contribute to the medical stereotypes against Black people that exist today. How can we in the social justice community engage in partnerships with marginalized groups to prevent medical abuse and promote health equity? What steps can be taken to hold healthcare institutions and providers accountable for racial medical abuse? #CommunityJusticeChallenge #HealthcareEquality
